BRUCE HIGHWAY (PINE RIVER – CAIRNS), ROAD OPERATIONS IMPROVEMENT
This initiative aims to establish Intelligent Transport System infrastructure at multiple sites along the Bruce Highway, extending from Pine River to Cairns.
The Bruce Highway serves as Queensland’s primary north-south transportation route for both freight and commuters, linking coastal urban areas from Brisbane to Cairns. Spanning 1,673 kilometers, this highway faces numerous challenges, including congestion, accidents, construction activities, bushfires, landslides, and flooding.
The Bruce Highway Road Operations Improvements Project aims to implement roadside technology, specifically Intelligent Transport Systems, at multiple points along the highway to enhance the project’s objective of facilitating the sharing of real-time situational awareness.
The anticipated rise in roadside sensors and signage is expected to facilitate more informed decision-making among road users, the department, and emergency services.
