ELIZABETH AVENUE PEDESTRIAN OVERPASS
The initiative is based on a school proposal for an overpass designed to ensure a secure crossing for students. This single-span steel structure will offer optimal protection for students, especially in this area where the school campuses are divided by a heavily trafficked four-lane, high-speed roadway. An overpass is the preferred crossing solution in such situations, as it effectively eliminates any possible interactions between vehicles and students.
Enhancements to the connectivity with Clontarf Beach State High School’s facilities on both sides of Elizabeth Avenue will not only serve the students but also offer increased safety for local sports organizations and all community members utilizing the overpass.
The overpass will be available for use by pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with mobility devices, featuring staircases and ramps that link to the school campuses and an adjacent network of shared pathways.
